Sources: Man United race to sign sensation who almost joined Man City

Man United are already making transfer plans as they aim to back Ruben Amorim to bolster and build his squad for the long-term future.

Football Insider revealed last month that Man United are desperate to sign a new midfielder, while new signings all over the pitch are being considered.

However, first-team additions are not the only thing on Man United‘s radar ahead of the January transfer window, as they are also making plans for the future.

United have always aimed to sign the best young talents in the country, and continued those plans by poaching Chido Obi Martin and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal last season.

They have now set their sights on another of the brightest prospects in the EFL, and are making plans to beat rivals to his signature should he become available.

Man United rival Man City for Jeremy Monga deal

Leicester City gem Jeremy Monga, aged just 16, is the latest young star on the Red Devils’ radar as they continue plans to build their squad for the future.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, United have joined England’s biggest clubs in their pursuit of the teenager and hope they can beat rivals to his signature should he be tempted to leave Leicester.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed in April that Man City and Liverpool pushed to sign Monga, but ultimately failed to get a deal over the line.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, I think it’ll be more than just Manchester United keeping tabs on Jeremy Monga.

“Manchester City were very close to signing him in the summer before he ended up agreeing scholarship terms with Leicester.

“There still is the doubt at Leicester that he could leave because he hasn’t signed a professional contract yet, which he can’t do until he turns 17.

“If he doesn’t sign a pro deal, he can be lured away for a nominal compensation fee as well. And it won’t just be Manchester United looking at him.

“City still remain interested in him as well. I’m sure you’ll have probably all the Premier League’s big six who would be interested in signing the England Youth International.

“He’s become a regular under Marti Cifuentes this season in the Foxes team as well.

“But there’s no doubt this interest in Monga is not going to go away because he’s such a top young talent and somebody who all the big clubs in the Premier League will be chasing.”

Given his age and contract situation, Monga could leave Leicester for just £2million, with a compensation fee unlikely to represent his true value to the Foxes.

Monga playing a starring role despite Leicester’s struggles

Monga is already justifying the interest from elite clubs, having made himself a crucial part of the Leicester side so far this season at just 16 years old.

The winger has made 12 appearances across all competitions this term, scored one goal and provided one assist despite the team’s struggles on and off the pitch.

Marti Cifuentes left QPR to join Leicester in the summer, but is now facing calls for his head at the King Power Stadium after an awful start to the new season.

Leicester lost 2-0 to Blackburn on 1 November, pushing them down to 14th in the Championship table with just two wins in their last 10 games.

Despite hopes of an immediate return to Premier League football, their situation is now looking bleak, with off-field issues casting a cloud over the club.
