Sources: Man United ready ‘huge’ Andre Onana bid
Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana is at the “top of the list” for Man United as they gear up to replace David de Gea this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
De Gea, 32, was released by the Old Trafford club on Friday (30 June) after the expiry of his contract.
Football Insider revealed on Friday that the long-serving goalkeeper agreed a pay cut with Man United and put pen to paper – only for United to pull out of the deal and offer reduced terms at the eleventh hour.
A well-placed source told Football Insider that the decision to renegotiate the deal comes down to reservations held by manager Erik ten Hag and it is claimed the Dutchman “doesn’t trust” De Gea.
Ten Hag knows Onana from their time together at Ajax and it is believed the pair have a good relationship.
Well-placed Man United sources have told Football Insider that the Cameroon international’s distribution and reading of the game is regarded as a “huge upgrade” on De Gea – who dropped multiple high-profile clangers last term.
Inter Milan are likely to hold out for a big-money bid for Onana following his impressive 2022-23 campaign.
It is believed it will take offers in excess of £50million to land the 27-year-old this summer.
He made 41 appearances for Inter last season, conceding 36 goals and keeping 19 clean sheets as the Italian giants reached the Champions League final.
Onana has racked up 172 total top-flight career appearances and has been capped 34 times by Cameroon.

Meanwhile, De Gea won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award for the 2022-23 campaign after keeping 17 clean sheets in 38 games and conceding 43 goals in the process.
The uncertainty surrounding the goalkeeping situation has meant Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton have seen their potential summer exits put on hold.
