Sources: Mansfield Town agree to sign Burnley star Nartey

Burnley defender Richard Nartey has agreed a deal to join Mansfield Town, Football Insider understands.

The 22-year-old, who signed a new deal at Burnley earlier this summer, has been the subject of loan interest from a number of League One and League Two clubs.

A Burnley source has told Football Insider that Clarets boss Sean Dyche has given the green light to Nartey heading to Mansfield on loan.

The manager is keen for the defender to get regular first-team experience after establishing himself as a mainstay for the club’s under-23s last season.

The centre-back penned a new 12-month contract back in July.

However, Burnley hold the option to extend the deal by a further year.

Nartey joined the Clarets on a free transfer in November 2020 after leaving Chelsea last summer.

A graduate of the youth academy at Stamford Bridge, he failed to make a single senior appearance for the Blues.

His first taste of league football came on loan at Burton Albion during the 2019/20 campaign.

He played 29 times for the Brewers under current Mansfield manager Nigel Clough.

The 55-year-old has been keen to reunite with his former player again this summer.

A deal has been agreed for Nartey to join the League Two outfit temporarily.

The versatile centre-back, who can also fill in at right-back, is yet to play for Burnley’s senior side.

However, he was on the bench for nine Premier League and two FA Cup games last term.

He is set to join a Mansfield side who currently sit seventh in England’s fourth tier.
