Sources: Marcelo Bielsa rejects Everton approach

Marcelo Bielsa has rejected interest from Everton, sources have told Football Insider.

The former Leeds United manager has been approached by the Merseysiders to ascertain his willingness to succeed the sacked Frank Lampard.

But it is understood that Bielsa has turned down Everton’s advances in a major blow to their managerial pursuit.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank

This comes after Football Insider broke the news on Monday afternoon (23 January) that Brentford have rejected an Everton approach for Thomas Frank.

The Dane is happy at the high-flying west Londoners and has no interest in taking over at Goodison Park.

Bielsa is said to have been the number one choice of owner Farhad Moshiri.

Lampard was sacked by Everton on Monday night (23 January) after losing back-to-back relegation six-pointers against Southampton and West Ham.

The Toffees are 19th in the Premier League – two points adrift of danger.

Lampard was sacked just days short of his 12-month anniversary of taking charge on Merseyside – and won just 12 of his 44 matches in the job.

Bielsa was last in charge at Leeds United, where he was sacked in February after a poor run of form.

The 67-year-old boasts a stellar CV, which includes spells at Marseille, Athletic Bilbao, Lille, and the Argentina senior side.

Everton will now be forced to move on to alternative targets, with Duncan Ferguson, Wayne Rooney, and Sean Dyche seemingly favourites to land the post.

The Toffees, who were last relegated from the top flight in 1951, face Arsenal and Liverpool in their next two league games.

In other news, Kieran Maguire claims Farhad Moshiri is taking advice from “idiots” amid “critical” Everton source reveal.
