Sources: Mark Noble to quit West Ham role
Mark Noble is set to quit his role as sporting director at West Ham this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 36-year-old was handed the role in January 2023 after taking six months out of the game following his retirement as a player.
Noble was eager to return to the London Stadium and contribute to the club in some capacity, but it is understood that a director role behind-the-scenes has not suited the club legend’s skill set.
The ex-Hammers captain is now set to step down from his role this summer, leaving a vacancy for a new sporting director to be appointed.
Noble communicated to the West Ham board that he would like to continue serving the club moving forward, but ideally in a more hands-on approach.
A role with the club academy is set to be offered to Noble, allowing him the chance to work with younger players and progress his coaching ability.
In the meantime, West Ham have opened their search for a new director of football ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
Football Insider sources revealed on Friday (19 May) that the Hammers have held talks with Brentford director Lee Dykes over the vacancy.

The board want a director able to address the poor transfer business at the club in recent seasons, and Dykes’ work at Brentford caught the eye.
Also on West Ham’s shortlist is departing Monaco director Paul Mitchell and former Liverpool chief Michael Edwards.
In other news, David Moyes is planning to quit West Ham at the end of the season
