Sources: Mason Mount talks face collapse with Chelsea agreement ‘further away than it’s ever been’
Mason Mount’s contract renewal talks at Chelsea have stalled with less than 18 months to run on his current deal, sources have told Football Insider.
Those with knowledge of the 24-year-old’s situation have revealed to our site that the two parties are in “deadlock” with a possible agreement “further away than it has ever been”.
Mount was unexpectedly consigned to the bench for just the second Premier League game this season as Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw away at West Ham on Saturday (11 February).
The move from Graham Potter comes after months of protracted contract negotiations with the England international, who has been left dissatisfied by the offers made to him so far.
Mount came through the academy at Chelsea and saw fellow Cobham graduate Reece James sign a big-money six-year contract in September 2022.
As has been widely reported, Liverpool are interested in bringing the 24-year-old to Anfield as they target an overhaul of their midfield.
The Blues have spent big in the transfer market this season – having recorded a whopping reported transfer outlay of over £540million across both windows.
British-record arrival Enzo Fernandez bolstered Potter’s midfield, while the likes of Joao Felix and Mykhaylo Mudryk have sharpened the Blues’ offensive arsenal.
Mount, who started three times for England at the World Cup last year, has managed three goals and six assists across 29 club appearances in his role as a regular starter this season.
The midfield star will have to hit inspired form in order to beat his career-best total of 13 goals and 16 assists from last campaign.
Mount currently earns a reported £80,000-a-week wage after signing his last extension following his return from a loan spell at Derby almost four years ago.

Chelsea sit ninth in the Premier League and will need to recover from a 10-point deficit to have any chance of Champions League qualification this season.
Potter’s side face Dortmund in Europe’s premier club competition on Wednesday (15 February).
