EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Tranmere Rovers have agreed to sign Aston Villa attacker Rushian Hepburn-Murphy on loan as he prepares to undergo a medical today, Football Insider understands.
Football Insider revealed in the middle of this month that the League One club were in advanced talks with the Midlands giants over a temporary deal for the England Under-20 international.
A Tranmere source has told Football Insider that the terms of the loan have been agreed and Hepburn-Murphy has been given the green light to have a medical today.
Birkenhead-based Rovers are keen for the deal to be completed ahead of their League One opener against Rochdale today as they prepare for the exciting attacker’s debut.
The source explained that manager Dean Smith and the Villa coaching staff believe a temporary move to Tranmere would be ideal for Hepburn-Murphy’s development.
The versatile forward, who can spearhead the attack, play on the flanks or even in a second striker role, spent the second half of last season out on loan at League Two Cambridge United, where he scored twice in 16 appearances.
Hepburn-Murphy progressed through the youth ranks at Villa to become the second youngest first-team debutant in the club’s history at 16 years and 176 days.
He has clocked up 16 further senior appearances, but he is not part of Smith’s first-team plans for the new campaign and is now set to go out on loan again to get first-team football.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club are working on a deal to sign another West Brom star.
