Sources: Michael Carrick could be set for Man United role in new set-up
Michael Carrick could potentially move to Man United to work alongside Darren Fletcher, sources have told Football Insider.
Fletcher has been named as the interim boss of United after Ruben Amorim was sacked on Monday, and he could be joined by Carrick in a similar role in the coming weeks.
The 44-year-old has been away from football since his exit from Middlesbrough in June, but sources have outlined to Football Insider that he could be brought in at Old Trafford to help his former teammate.
A handful of clubs have an interest in appointing Carrick as their boss, including Birmingham City and West Brom.
But Man United have no interest in handing him a full-time role at the helm of the first team.

Michael Carrick to provide experience alongside Darren Fletcher
Fletcher is held in high regard at Manchester United, but there are sure to be concerns regarding his lack of managerial experience.
The Scot has only managed a handful of games for the club’s U18 team, but will now be expected to oversee immediate results and have the senior team fighting for a European place at the end of the season.
Adding Carrick to his staff in the coming weeks would help to address any concerns, given that he has previously led United in a caretaker role back in 2021 and has since excelled in the Championship.
The former United midfielder led Middlesbrough to the play-offs in the second tier back in 2022-23, but he was unable to replicate that feat in the following two campaigns, and that ultimately cost him his job.

Fletcher is far from a permanent solution at Old Trafford, but he and his team will be tasked with steadying the ship for now, and Carrick could be set to help with that.
Which clubs are keen to appoint Carrick?
Carrick has been heavily linked with the West Ham job of late, as the pressure continues to build on Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Irons have a huge clash on the horizon against relegation rivals Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, and Carrick is already a name that is featuring in discussions regarding a potential replacement for Nuno.
He is also among the leading candidates to take over at Leicester City in the event that Marti Cifuentes is dismissed, while the likes of Birmingham City and West Brom have also shown an interest.
Carrick is a well-thought-of coach at Championship level, and there are several teams who are keen to see if he can replicate his Middlesbrough exploits at their club.
