Sources: Mick McCarthy expected in Blackpool today as deal finalised
Mick McCarthy and his representatives are expected to arrive in Blackpool on Thursday afternoon to finalise his managerial appointment, sources have told Football Insider.
The 63-year-old is the leading candidate to replace Michael Appleton after Blackpool sacked him following a poor run of form.
Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (18 January) that McCarthy is set to be appointed imminently on a contract running until the end of the season.

Provided that contract negotiations progress smoothly on Thursday, McCarthy will be announced as the club’s new manager.
He is expected to be in the dugout for Blackpool’s Championship fixture against Huddersfield.
McCarthy will be tasked with keeping the Tangerines up this season – they currently sit 23rd having taken just 26 points from 27 matches.
His last managerial stint came at Cardiff City in 2021, where he lasted just 10 months before a poor run of form resulted in him leaving via mutual consent.
However, McCarthy did make a brilliant start with the Bluebirds, winning the Championship Manager of the Month award following a six-game winning streak.
McCarthy has fond memories in the Championship having won it twice with Sunderland in 2004/05 as well as Wolves in 2008/09.
He spent three years with the Black Cats before consecutive six-year stints at Wolves and Ipswich Town.

More recently, McCarthy has enjoyed shorter spells in charge of the Republic of Ireland and Cypriot side APOEL.
Throughout his 21-year managerial career, McCarthy has managed over 1,000 games and boasts a win rate of 38.56 per cent.
