Sources: Mikel Arteta to open talks over Arsenal deal, it will get done soon

Mikel Arteta is due for a new contract at Arsenal as they aim to continue their impressive progress towards winning major silverware.

The boss’ current contract is set to expire in 2027, but there is a growing desire for him to extend his stay and help further the club’s ambitious plans.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, contract talks are not a priority as things stand, but could progress in 2026 with all parties keen to reach an agreement despite no talks having been held.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League table and second in the Champions League, and have been widely tipped as leading candidates for both trophies.

That has taken priority over Arteta‘s situation as things stand, but with around 18 months left on his current terms, they are making plans for the future.

Arsenal make Mikel Arteta contract plans

Arsenal have been tipped as title favourites as a result of their strong start to the season, in a display of how far Arteta has taken them since his arrival in 2019.

While the current focus is on the team’s progress in their pursuit of silverware, talks over the boss’ contract are expected to take place in due course.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, I think for certain it’s something that they will get to, as you said, it’s probably not the priority right now.

“Arteta’s contract will take care of itself. I’ve got no doubts about that. Arteta’s happy at Arsenal. Arsenal are obviously very happy with him.

“I think for Arteta himself probably his focus and priority right now is on success for Arsenal this season.

“I’m sure later in 2026, I’m sure there’ll be talks held between Arteta and Arsenal to see if they can sort out his future and extend his stay at the Emirates as well.

“And then I would expect those talks to go pretty smoothly because everybody’s content with how things are going at Arsenal right now as well.

“Arsenal want to keep Mikel Arteta long term as their manager because of the impressive work he’s already done so far.”

Arsenal contract talks with Bukayo Saka progressing

Arteta is not the only key figure at Arsenal in line for a new deal, as the Gunners are making progress towards tying down a number of their star players.

Football Insider revealed on 26 October that Bukayo Saka is closing in on a new Arsenal contract as they aim to extend his stay past his current deal’s 2027 expiry.

Sources say that talks between the club and the player are progressing well, with Saka likely to pen a new contract in upcoming period.

Meanwhile, Arsenal want to extend Leandro Trossard’s deal, and the likes of William Saliba and Myles Lewis-Skelly have also recently committed to deals.

The Gunners have been widely praised for being proactive in contract talks, and Arteta could be next to sign extended terms as part of their ambitious plans.
