
Sources: Multiple clubs in race to sign Chelsea star Dion Rankine after talks held
Chelsea have opened talks with Dion Rankine over a new contract but multiple clubs are racing to sign him, sources have told Football Insider.
The winger, 20, is in the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge and is yet to agree terms over an extension.
Multiple English clubs as well as sides from France, Holland and Belgium are monitoring Rankine’s situation at Chelsea and are preparing moves for him this month.
Chelsea are keen to keep hold of Rankine, who they signed as a 14-year-old from Cambridge, and discussions are ongoing over a new deal.
The youngster has racked up more than 100 appearances for the Blues’ youth sides but has never registered a senior appearance.
Rankine, who can play on both flanks, has registered two goals and two assists in 16 appearances this term.
The London-born ace was part of the Chelsea squad which travelled to the US in pre-season and he also took part in mid-season friendlies in Dubai during the World Cup.
Graham Potter has been forced to call upon a number of youth products since taking the reins at Stamford Bridge, but is yet to include Rankine in a matchday squad.
Omari Hutchinson made his Chelsea debut on Thursday night (5 January) as Potter contends with a number of key injuries in attack.
18-year-old Lewis Hall has also made his senior breakthrough this season after impressing with the Under-21 squad in a number of positions.
