Sources: Multiple clubs make contact over signing Chelsea star Bashir Humphreys

Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys is a target for multiple Championship and League One clubs this month, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blues have fielded enquiries about Humphreys’ possible availability on loan for the second half of the season.

Chelsea are yet to make a decision on whether to accept an offer for Humphreys or keep him at Stamford Bridge.

The 19-year-old is currently in and around the senior squad after making his first-team debut in the FA Cup clash at Man City earlier this month.

He was named on the bench for Sunday’s (15 January) Premier League win over Crystal Palace.

January addition Benoit Badashille started the match – and his signing could limit Humphreys’ involvement for the rest of this season.

Summer arrival Wesley Fofana remains sidelined with a knee injury and has missed most of the season so far – but is reportedly expected to return next month.

Humphreys, who joined Chelsea from Reading in 2021, has turned out 16 times for the Blues’ Under-23 side this term – wearing the armband on multiple occasions.

The Exeter-born star is primarily a central defender but has played in defensive midfield at youth level.

Humphreys is capped at Under-19 level by England and has 18 months left to run on his contract, although Chelsea have an option to extend his deal by 12 months.

Graham Potter has been forced to call upon a number of youth products since taking the reins at Stamford Bridge.

Omari Hutchinson and Lewis Hall are among those to feature in recent weeks.
