Multiple English clubs have set their sights on Ryan Mullen after he knocked back a new Celtic contract, Football Insider can reveal.

The goalkeeper, 18, is highly regarded at Parkhead and the club have tried to extend his current deal, which expires next summer.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that a number of clubs in the English Football League are keeping close tabs on Mullen ahead of the January window.

As revealed by Football Insider earlier this week, the teenager had knocked back Celtic’s initial contract offer.

This came as something of a “surprise” to the club, according to one source with knowledge of the situation.

But Mullen is in no rush to secure a transfer and is willing to keep his options open, including extending his Hoops stay beyond June 2020.

Mullen is entering the final six months of his contract at the Scottish champions, who are keen to tie him down to a new deal.

The problem for Celtic is that the young keeper can leave in a cut-price January deal or as a free agent at the end of the season.

Mullen has yet to make his first-team debut for Celtic, but he has been a regular for the club’s reserves and has featured in the UEFA Youth League games in the last couple of seasons, including six of them in the current campaign.

He is also a Scotland youth international and has been capped by his country at Under-19s level.

Mullen’s situation comes at a time of uncertainty over the senior Celtic keeping positions.

Fraser Forster is due to return to Southampton at the end of his season-long loan, while Craig Gordon is out of contract at the end of this campaign and is weighing up his future.

In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that Nicky Hammond has had tense transfer talks with £10m+ valued Hoops star.
