Sources: Napoli close to agreeing Scott McTominay deal
Napoli are edging closer to an agreement with Scott McTominay to extend his contract and deter interest from watching Premier League clubs.
Both Tottenham and Man United have been linked with moves for the 29-year-old and have been impressed by his performances since moving to Serie A.
The Scotland international has become a cult hero at Napoli, where he scored the goal which saw them lift last season’s Scudetto and earned a Ballon d’Or nomination.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Napoli are now confident McTominay will extend his stay at the club.
McTominay’s current contract at the Italian outfit is set to run until 2028, but putting pen to paper on a new deal will further strengthen their position.

Napoli close in on Scott McTominay agreement
Football Insider revealed in November that Napoli are determined to keep McTominay despite interest from the likes of Tottenham, who considered a January move.
The Italian outfit have moved quickly to deter interest, and are now hopeful of agreeing a new contract to further strengthen their position over his future.
Premier League clubs would be made to pay a premium for the midfielder if they were to make an approach, with the new deal bumping that price up again.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Yeah, I think it’ll be difficult to lure him away from Napoli right now as well.
“It would have to be a huge offer to try and convince him to leave what he’s got right now at Napoli.
“That’s why there is talks ongoing over a new contract just to sort of end any speculation over his long-term future as well.
“Talks ongoing over a new deal just to extend that and end the constant talk of a potential return to the Premier League.

“Napoli offer McTominay such a great platform to play on. He’s playing Champions League football, he’s contesting for titles and trophies.
“So if the right offer is made in these contract talks, you would imagine there would be willingness from all parties to get this done.”

This is how McTominay feels about Premier League return
McTominay’s success since moving to Napoli has led to frequent questions about whether he should have been allowed to leave Man United to begin with.
However, despite the growing interest from Premier League clubs in McTominay, there are also doubts about whether he would be open to a return.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 19 February that McTominay is happy at Napoli and has no plans to return to England.
He has also become a star player for his country and is set to represent Scotland at the World Cup where he will play a key role in any success they enjoy.
After preventing his departure mid-way through the season, they have retained their stance ahead of the summer, and hope a new contract will ward off suitors.
