Sources: Napoli submit offer for Sheffield United star Anel Ahmedhodzic
Serie A champions Napoli have made an offer for Sheffield United defender Anel Ahmedhodzic, sources have told Football Insider.
Walter Mazzarri’s side are keen to sign a centre-back this month and have been linked with other Premier League defenders in recent days.
Trevoh Chalobah has been mentioned by outlets in Italy with Football Insider revealing on Tuesday (16 January) that he does not figure in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at Chelsea.
But Napoli have made their move for Ahmedhodzic, 24, after his impressive performances in a difficult season for Sheffield United.
It is believed the Blades could well be forced to sell to generate funds for business of their own this month as they try desperately to remain in the Premier League.
Sheffield United’s quest for survival could be aided further by potential point deductions for Nottingham Forest and Everton – who were charged with breaching Financial Fair Play rules on Monday (15 January).
Ahmedhodzic has caught the eye of Napoli after making 14 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring once.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has even worn the captain’s armband for Sheffield United in recent weeks.
He joined the Blades from Malmo in 2022 and helped them to promotion back to the Premier League last term, making 40 appearances and notching seven goals.
Ahmedhodzic is under contract at Bramall Lane until June 2026.

Chris Wilder’s side are bottom of the Premier League table after winning just two of their 20 top-flight games this term.
Napoli sit eighth in Serie A after winning the Scudetto last year.
