Sources: New York Red Bulls ready lucrative offer for Blackburn Rovers star Lenihan
New York Red Bulls are readying a lucrative offer for Blackburn Rovers defender Darragh Lenihan, Football Insider understands.
The centre-back, 27, is out-of-contract at the end of the season and has yet to commit to a new deal at Ewood Park.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that New York Red Bulls are actively monitoring the Republic of Ireland international’s situation and are prepared to offer him a lucrative deal to move to the USA.
Lenihan has been a stand-out performer for Blackburn this season and played a key role in their unlikely bid for promotion to the Premier League.
His displays have alerted a number of clubs, including New York Red Bulls.
The MLS outfit can sign players in the league’s primary transfer window from 10 February to 4 May as well as in a secondary window in the summer.
New York Red Bulls are currently in pre-season training as their season kicks off against San Jose Earthquakes later this month (26 February).
Lenihan has started all but two of Rovers’ Championship games this term and has captained the side on occasion.
Losing him would be a major blow to Tony Mowbray who, via FourFourTwo magazine last year (18 December 2021), hailed the Irishman as a “special footballer”.

The two-time international has played 238 times across all competitions for Blackburn since moving from Belvedere FC as a 17-year-old in 2011.
Blackburn are currently second in the Championship but they have played a game more than Bournemouth in third and QPR in fourth.
In other news, a Premier League club have been tipped to sign a Blackburn Rovers star for at least £20million.
