Sources: Newcastle confident of agreeing Bruno Guimaraes deal as talks scheduled

Newcastle United are confident of agreeing a new deal with star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old is considered a key player at St James’ Park, and manager Eddie Howe is keen to tie down the Brazilian to a new bumper long-term deal.

Football Insider sources revealed on Friday (3 March) that Newcastle are set to open talks with Guimaraes over a new contract extension.

The deal’s wages are well in excess of £100,000 and will place the Brazilian among the club’s highest earners.

It is understood that Guimaraes is extremely happy and settled in Tyneside following his move to Newcastle and the club are confident of finalising terms with the player.

Guimaraes has been pivotal to Howe’s project since joining the club for £40million from French outfit Lyon last January.

In his first six months in the Premier League, Guimaraes scored five goals and registered one assist as he helped Newcastle to an 11th-placed finish in 2021/22.

Guimaraes carried his form into the current campaign, where he has scored four and assisted three in 26 appearances across all competitions.

In February, Guimaraes insisted he wants to become a legendary figure at Newcastle: “I hope to be a legend here. I know that this club can be one of the giants.

“Any time someone asked me what my dream was, from the time I was 15, I always said it was to play in the Premier League one day.”
