Sources: Newcastle United blow as Robinson closes in on new Fulham deal

Newcastle United are set to miss out on left-back target Antonee Robinson as he closes in on a new Fulham contract, sources have told Football Insider.

Left-back is a key area of interest for the Magpies as they look to press on with their summer business.

Football Insider first revealed Newcastle’s interest in Robinson back in February – with Eddie Howe targetting an attack-minded left-back option with more pace than Dan Burn.

It is believed that scouts regularly watched the 25-year-old during the 2022-23 season and have delivered rave reviews on his performances.

Robinson, who started his career at Everton, is currently only under contract at Craven Cottage until June 2024.

However, a well-placed source has revealed that the United States international is closing in on an agreement to extend his Fulham stay.

He racked up 38 appearances across all competitions, notching one assist as the Cottagers consolidated their Premier League status with a 10th-place finish.

Robinson has managed 107 appearances across all competitions since joining the west London outfit from Wigan in 2020.

Also on the radar at Newcastle is Arsenal star Kieran Tierney.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (6 July) that Tierney’s Gunners future will be decided in the coming days following a sit-down with manager Mikel Arteta.

Dan Burn and Matt Targett are the current options for Newcastle at left-back, but they are keen to add more quality with Champions League football on the horizon.
