Sources: Newcastle United compile huge scouting dossier on Amadou Onana, summer plan revealed
Newcastle United are very keen on a summer deal for Everton midfield star Amadou Onana, sources have told Football Insider.
The 22-year-old was the subject of interest in the January transfer window but the Toffees were reluctant to sell and priced him out of a move.
Newcastle have compiled an extensive scouting dossier on Onana ahead of a possible swoop for the Belgium international in the off-season.
It is believed the Magpies see the Everton midfielder as a big upgrade on some of their current midfield options.
Onana has made 24 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign so far, notching two goals and one assist.
He has racked up 50 games in the Premier League since joining the Toffees in August 2022.
Before that, the imposing midfielder played for Ligue 1 side Lille – notching three goals in 42 appearances.
Onana is under contract at Goodison Park until June 2027.
The 22-year-old has racked up nine caps for Belgium and played for his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Newcastle could be without midfielder Joelinton until the end of the season after undergoing thigh surgery.

Sandro Tonali will play no further part this season after being banned for gambling rule breaches last year (2023).
Eddie Howe’s side sit ninth in the Premier League after drawing 4-4 at home against Luton on Saturday (3 February).
