Sources: Newcastle United plan to ‘cash in’ on Bruno Guimaraes as £100m deal now likely

Newcastle United could now cash in on Bruno Guimaraes’ £100million release clause in the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke insisted speculation about the midfielder’s future “isn’t going away” – and added that his feeling is that Guimaraes will depart St James’ Park.

It is believed clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all monitoring the situation at Newcastle – who will need to sell top players to do business of their own.

Newcastle are also fielding offers for the likes of Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson after club CEO Darren Eales admitted players may have to be sold due to Financial Fair Play concerns.

Guimaraes only signed his new deal with the Magpies in October 2023, inserting a £100million buyout clause into his terms sheet at St James’ Park.

His new contract runs until June 2028.

The Brazil international has been a key man for Eddie Howe’s side since arriving from Lyon for a reported £40million two years ago.

He has made 30 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign, notching one goal and four assists.

Newcastle have lost his first-choice midfield partners, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali, to injury and suspension respectively.

The Magpies have lost each of their last four Premier League games and sit 10th in the table.
