Sources: Newcastle United submitting £25m+ Joao Pedro bid as two marquee signings lined up
Newcastle United are ready to submit a new bid for Joao Pedro of £25million plus add-ons, sources have told Football Insider.
This site revealed on Monday night (15 August) that the north-east giants had submitted an opening £20million bid for the striker but Watford are holding out for £30million.
Newcastle are now preparing to up their offer for Pedro by £5million guaranteed, supplemented by performance-related add-ons.
The new bid will test Watford’s resolve to hold on to the highly-rated 20-year-old.
Newcastle regard Pedro as a top talent and are working on completing a deal ahead of the 1 September transfer cut-off.
They also want to sign another marquee talent in the final fortnight of this summer’s window as Eddie Howe looks to reshape his squad.
Pedro joined Watford from Brazilian club Fluminense in the summer of 2020 and has three more years on his contract.
The youngster played 90 minutes on Tuesday night (16 August) as the Hornets were held to a 1-1 draw by Birmingham.
He scored four goals in 29 games last season but opened his account on the first day of the new Championship campaign (1 August).
Pedro, whose best return is nine goals in the Championship in the 2020-21 season, can also play on the left flank.
Chris Wood and Callum Wilson are currently the Newcastle’s only senior striking options.

Newcastle have already moved to strengthen their rearguard with the signings of Sven Botman, Matt Targett, and Nick Pope so far this summer.
The Magpies have picked up four points from their first two games and host Man City on Sunday (21 August).
