Sources: Newcastle United told £30m bid will seal Joao Pedro deal as talks held
Watford have slapped a £30million price tag on Newcastle United target Joao Pedro, sources have told Football Insider.
Watford have responded by rejecting the offer and telling Newcastle it will take another £10million to prise Pedro, 20, from them by the transfer cut-off.
Newcastle regard Pedro as a top talent with the potential to be a Premier League sensation.
Pedro joined relegated Watford from Brazilian club Fluminense in the summer of 2020 and has three more years on his contract.
He scored four goals in 29 games last season but opened his account on the first day of the Championship campaign (1 August) – finishing off an incisive breakaway from the Hornets.
The Magpies are in the market for attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Chris Wood and Callum Wilson are currently the club’s only senior striking options.
Wood has scored just two in 18 Newcastle games, while Wilson was only available for 18 games last term – underscoring the need for another forward.
Pedro, whose best return is nine goals in the Championship in the 2020-21 season, can also play on the left flank.
Watford have already lost last season’s star man Emmanuel Dennis to promoted Nottingham Forest, while Ismalia Sarr has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs.

Newcastle have strengthened their rearguard with the signings of Sven Botman, Matt Targett, and Nick Pope.
The Magpies have picked up four points from their first two games and host Man City on Sunday (21 August).
