Sources: Oliver Skipp agrees new Tottenham contract as major pay hike revealed

Tottenham have reached an agreement in principle with Oliver Skipp over a new contract, Football Insider understands.

The midfielder, 21, has been in talks with the club over a deal to replace his current package.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that an agreement is now in place and it is expected it will be signed and announced soon.

Skipp has secured a major pay hike as a reward for establishing himself as a key member of the team.

Ex-Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho made no attempt to hide his admiration for Skipp, who he called “phenomenal” and a “future Spurs captain”.

It is a stance shared by Antonio Conte, whose only frustration with the midfielder is his current unavailability due to injury.

Skipp has been out for over two months after breaking down with a groin problem in the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on 23 January.

He had established himself as a regular starter in central midfield before that point and was deemed so effective that Conte sanctioned the exits of Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso in January.

Skipp has made 14 Premier League starts among 28 appearances in all competitions this season.

He has accumulated 2006 minutes of action, second among the club’s central midfielder this term only to Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg.

Skipp spent last season out on loan at Norwich City and played a pivotal role as they steamrollered the Championship to secure instant promotion.
