Sources: Palios signs off McPake transfer from Rangers after agreement reached

Tranmere Rovers chairman Mark Palios has given the green light to the club signing Rangers attacker Josh McPake in January, Football Insider understands.

This site exclusively revealed on Tuesday (21 December) that Tranmere were set to win the race to sign McPake ahead of rival lower-league clubs including Oldham Athletic and Hartlepool.

A Rangers source has told Football Insider that Rovers chief Palios has now “signed off” the deal and an agreement is in place.

It is expected that McPake, 20, will head to the League Two outfit to undergo a medical ahead of joining as soon as the January window opens.

That will complete a fifth loan move in two years for the forward.

It would be his third in in the last two seasons at English clubs following spells at Morecambe and Hartlepool.

Promotion-chasing Tranmere, who are fifth in League Two, have moved for the Scotland Under-21 international to boost their hopes of going up to League One.

They will have to make room in their squad for McPake by letting other players go ahead of January.

Rangers have been keen to find a new a team for the youngster where he is playing regularly and getting the opportunity to develop his game.

The Glasgow giants have high hopes for McPake and agreed a new three-year contract during the summer that runs until the summer of 2024.

He has found starts hard to come by at Morecambe although that is partly due to injury.

McPake has been sidelined since mid-October with an ankle problem.
