Sources: Patrick Bamford could complete Coventry City move imminently, one thing must happen first

Patrick Bamford is currently a free agent but is training with Coventry in the hope of reviving his career.

Bamford left Leeds last summer after both parties mutually agreed it would be best to go their separate ways.

In the wake of his exit, sources told Football Insider that Bamford was open to a move to Celtic before he was snubbed.

Conversely, Bamford was also linked with a move to the MLS in the hopes of resurrecting his stumbling career, now training under former teammate Frank Lampard at Coventry.

Coventry only would consider permanent Bamford signing if injuries piled up

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Sky Blues are not looking to sign the Englishman currently with no need for him in their team.

Lampard offered for Bamford to train with Coventry to improve his fitness, and it seems the slim chance of a permanent signing would only come if injuries cropped up.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I think it’s a case of getting his fitness back right now.

“There’s obviously a relationship there that he’s got with Frank Lampard, who’s allowed him to come in and train with Coventry while he’s without a club, just to maintain his fitness.

“In football you never say never. If Coventry were to get a few injuries or anything like that up front, then maybe that might open the door for potential move for Bamford.

“But, right now, it’s not under consideration that Coventry are planning to move for Patrick Bamford. As I said, he’s there to just maintain his fitness.”

Coventry’s success could lead to Frank Lampard’s stocks soaring as Premier League clubs circle

The former Chelsea manager and player has honed his craft in the Championship with the Sky Blues, rightly receiving attention from clubs in the English top-flight.

Lampard had been touted for the West Ham job before Nuno Espirito Santo succeeded Graham Potter, given his links to his old team.

Similarly, Rangers briefly explored Lampard as Russell Martin’s replacement, but ultimately landed on Danny Rohl.

Nevertheless, should the ex-Derby County boss win promotion to the Premier League this season, it will not be surprising to see many of the English top-flight clubs go all in for his services.
