Sources: Peterborough United agree deal with Grant McCann
Grant McCann has agreed to become the new Peterborough United manager, Football Insider understands.
The Championship strugglers are searching for a new boss following the resignation of Darren Ferguson last weekend.
McCann, who has previously had a spell in charge of Peterborough, has been out of work since last month after being sacked by Hull City following their takeover.
A Peterborough source has told Football Insider he is heading to Fulham tonight after agreeing to take over the role.
As relayed by Hull Live‘s Barry Cooper yesterday (22 February) the Northern Irishman watched his former club lose 2-0 to Barnsley last night.
Peterborough host Hull City at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday (26 February) in what will be a crunch relegation clash.
Before then, the Posh travel to runaway league leaders Fulham tonight (23 February).
The club confirmed yesterday Matthew Etherington will be in temporary charge for the trip to Craven Cottage.
Ferguson’s third spell in charge of the club came to an end with a 1-0 defeat to Derby County at the weekend.
They are second-bottom from the Championship, eight points from safety but they have games in hand over the clubs immediately above the bottom three.
McCann spent almost five years as a player with Peterborough between 2010 and 2015 and became part of the coaching staff later that year after a brief spell at Linfield.
He then took over as manager the next year and was in charge for over 100 games before he was sacked in February 2018 following a run of no wins in seven games.
