Sources: Plymouth Argyle agree to sign Cambridge star Burton
Plymouth Argyle are completing the signing of Cambridge United goalkeeper Callum Burton, Football Insider has learned.
The 24-year-old is out of contract at the League One club at the end of this month.
An industry source has told Football Insider Plymouth have looked to take advantage of Burton’s status and have now reached an agreement over signing him.
The deal is being finalised and all parties are confident it will be completed soon.
Cambridge confirmed last month Burton was not offered a new deal despite ending the season in the starting XI.
He began the campaign as back up to Dimitar Mitov but started the final 20 League Two games as the U’s earned promotion.

Burton ended the campaign with 11 clean sheets in 31 games across all competitions.
Across his two-year spell with the club, the former England Under-18 stopper kept 15 clean sheets in 50 games.
He will likely provide cover at Plymouth for first choice Mike Cooper who won the club’s young player of the season award after an impressive breakthrough campaign.
Jack Ruddy was released at the end of the season and has joined Northern Irish champions Linfield.
Luke McCormick, 37, has been offered an “alternative role” at the club and it looks like he has played his last game for his boyhood side.
Plymouth ended last season in 18th-place in League One, six points above the relegation zone.
