Sources: Plymouth Argyle in advanced talks to sign Everton star Lewis Gibson
Plymouth Argyle are in advanced talks to sign Everton defender Lewis Gibson, sources have told Football Insider.
The Championship new boys have moved for the centre-back, 22, and are set to beat a number of EFL rivals to his signature.
A breakthrough is close as Plymouth work on securing a full agreement for Newcastle United product Gibson.
He has not made a competitive first-team appearance for Everton since joining from Newcastle in 2017.
The defender has spent most of his time at Goodison Park out on loan at Fleetwood, Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol Rovers.
The 22-year-old spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Bristol Rovers and made 33 appearances across all competitions.
Gibson was in the starting lineup for 29 of those outings and netted one goal.
The centre-back was also given the captain’s armband for two of the Pirates’ league games.
Gibson has featured for England at youth level and has made 24 appearances across various age groups for his national side.
The defender was also part of the England squad that won the under-17s World Cup back in 2017.
Everton desperately need to ship players out this summer.

On 22 May, Football Insider revealed that the Toffees will have no money to play with in the summer transfer window and will be forced to operate a sell-to-buy policy.
Sean Dyche will need to offload some more valuable assets in order to generate funds for new signings despite surviving relegation last season.
