Sources: Plymouth Argyle plotting to sign former Liverpool Ovie Ejaria

Plymouth Argyle are weighing up a move for former Liverpool and Reading midfielder Ovie Ejaria, sources have told Football Insider.

Ejaria, 26, is a free agent after having his contract at Reading terminated by mutual consent last month.

Plymouth are in the market for midfield reinforcements having seen loanees Finn Azaz and Luke Cundle leave Home Park earlier this month to move to new clubs.

Reading

Ejaria made 124 appearances for Reading after joining initially on loan from Liverpool in 2019 before making the move permanent the following year.

Former England Under-21 midfielder Ejaria made two senior appearances for Liverpool, in the EFL Cup in 2016, before loan spells with Sunderland and Rangers.

He then emerged as a mainstay at Reading during two seasons in the Championship but fell out of favour last season, making just eight appearances before their relegation to League One.

Reading confirmed his departure last month, citing “injury and fitness problems” and the “desire from the club to reduce its expenditure” as the key reasons for his departure.

Ejaria’s versatility allows him to play across the midfield, including attacking, defensive and central, as well as on the left wing.

The Pilgrims have already recruited midfield reinforcements this month, with the club confirming the loan signing of Darko Gyabi from Leeds United for the remainder of the season.

Liverpool

Plymouth sit 19th in the Championship after their 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town on Saturday (13 January).

They next welcome Cardiff City to Home Park on 20 January.
