Sources: Plymouth Argyle working to complete deadline-busting deal for Reading star Femi Azeez

Plymouth Argyle are working hard to beat Thursday’s (1 February) 11pm transfer deadline to sign Reading winger Femi Azeez, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at the cash-strapped League One side and the Pilgrims are now keen to bring him to Home Park before the window shuts.

Azeez has been one of Reading’s top performers in a tough season for Ruben Selles’ side so far but could now depart for the Championship before 11pm.

The former non-league ace has managed five goals and six assists in 34 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign.

He also made 20 Championship appearances last term as Reading dropped into the third tier, assisting twice.

Azeez joined Reading from non-league Wealdstone in 2019 and progressed through the youth ranks before making the grade at senior level.

Plymouth are still in the hunt for reinforcements after losing several loan stars – as well as their manager – in the mid-season window.

Finn Azaz was the highest-profile exit and Azeez’s productive output could go some way to replacing the now-Middlesbrough star.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (31 January) that Aston Villa new boy Lino Sousa is set to be loaned out immediately to Argyle.
