Sources: Portsmouth agree deal to sign Josh Griffiths on loan from West Brom

Portsmouth have agreed a deal to sign West Brom goalkeeper Josh Griffiths on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

The Baggies have given the green light for the 20-year-old to head out temporarily for the third successive season.

The shot-stopper is happy to leave the Hawthorns in pursuit of more first-team action and has agreed to join Pompey for the upcoming campaign.

The shot-stopper spent last season on loan with Lincoln City in League One.

He played 35 times across all competitions as he helped the Imps finish 17th in England’s third tier.

His campaign was cut short in March after he suffered ligament damage.

However, the keeper’s performances were enough to convince Portsmouth to make a move this summer.

The south coast outfit are in the market for a new goalkeeper after Gavin Bazunu’s loan move from Manchester City came to an end.

The new Southampton keeper was firmly first choice at Fratton Park as he played 46 times across all competitions.

Alex Bass is the only recognised senior goalkeeper at Danny Cowley’s disposal ahead of the new season.

The 23-year-old academy graduate made seven appearances for Pompey during the 2021/22 campaign.

He was shipped off to Bradford City for the second half of the season, where he played 21 times.

Griffiths is set to bring added competition between the sticks for Portsmouth as they look to better their 10th-placed finish from last term.

The West Brom keeper is still yet to make his debut for the Baggies, having come through the youth ranks at the Hawthorns.
