Sources: Portsmouth and Cambridge race to sign Arsenal star Nathan Butler-Oyedeji

Portsmouth and Cambridge United are racing to sign Arsenal striker Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, sources have told Football Insider.

Butler-Oyedeji, who was named on the bench for Mikel Arteta’s first-team last season, is set to be loaned out so that he can regular first-team action this season.

Arsenal have given the green light to him finding a temporary club with Portsmouth and Cambridge among those registering their interest in a deal.

Both clubs are talking to the player’s camp about how he fits into the plans as they look to convince him to sign.

The 20-year-old had his first experience of senior football during a loan spell at Accrington Stanley during the second half of last season and Arsenal feel he would be best served by going out on loan again.

The striker has ben with the Gunners for 12 years and recently progressed to their under-21s side in 2021.

Although Butler-Oyedeji is yet to make his senior bow for the Londoners, he has featured for the club at youth level and made 18 appearances for the U21s last term before going on loan to Accrington Stanley in January where he played 11 times.
