Sources: Preston North End line up move to sign West Ham star Harrison Ashby

Preston North End are plotting a move to sign highly-rated West Ham defender Harrison Ashby, sources have told Football Insider.

Preston boss Ryan Lowe is keen to bring in a new right wing-back before the window shuts.

The Championship club have lined up a move for Scotland Under-21 international Ashby.

Preston are hoping that West Ham will allow Ashby to go out on loan before Thursday’s cut-off and are waiting on the green light.

The 20-year-old started his career at Chelsea before moving to West Ham and the full-back has broken into the first-team under David Moyes.

He has made one appearance in the Europa Conference League qualifiers against Viborg this season, but he was not even in the squad for last weekend’s win at Aston Villa.

Moyes, who is still based in the Preston area after spending almost 10 years as a player and manager at Deepdale, may be keen to do his old club a favour.

North End may be able to offer him regular first-team football as they are in desperate need of a new right wing-back.

Natural midfielder Brad Potts has started all six of their Championship games in the role while Matthew Olosunde has been on the transfer list since the end of last season.

Preston

After the success of Sepp van den Berg and Cameron Archer last season, Preston have looked again into loaning younger players from Premier League clubs this summer.

They have already brought in striker Troy Parrott from Tottenham and Man United left-back Alvaro Fernandez on temporary deals this window.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has issued a “furious” West Ham fans claim amid a new legal controversy.
