Sources: Rangers agree sixth signing of Michael Beale reign, announcement soon

Rangers are set to announce the signing of Jose Cifuentes on a pre-contract agreement, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gers have made a breakthrough in talks over a deal for Cifuentes and are set to confirm his arrival soon.

The 24-year-old’s contract at Los Angeles FC runs until December 2023 after his arrival in January 2020.

On 20 April, Football Insider revealed that the Gers had been in contact with the Ecuador international’s representatives but were not the frontrunners in the battle for his signature.

The striker has been attracting interest from English clubs including recently relegated Leeds United and Spanish side Espanyol.

Now, Football Insider has learned that the Gers are close to confirming his Ibrox arrival after agreeing a deal.

Cifuentes will become Michael Beale’s fourth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Kieran Dowell from Norwich City, Dujon Sterling from Chelsea and Jack Butland from Crystal Palace.

The new players join Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin, who arrived in the winter window, as Beale’s team starts to take shape.

Cifuentes has made 20 appearances for the MLS side so far this season, notching one goal and four assists in those outings.

The midfielder enjoyed an impressive campaign last year, scoring seven goals as providing six assists in 33 MLS appearances.

Beale has already lost two long-serving midfielders in Scott Arfield and Steven Davis who are departing the club following the expiration of their Ibrox contracts and is looking to bring fresh blood into his midfield to mount a challenge against defending champions Celtic next season.
