Sources: Rangers change late-January signing plan after big development
Rangers want to secure a deal for a new forward before the transfer window closes following the devastating blow to Abdallah Sima, sources have told Football Insider.
Sima was injured while in training while away with Senegal at the African Cup of Nations, with Philippe Clement confirming he will face a “long period” on the sidelines.
Rangers’ priority this month has been to bring in a new left-back and they are reportedly close to completing a deal with Cypriot side APOEL for Jefte.
Now, the Gers will focus their attention on signing a replacement for Sima before the close of the February 1 cut-off.
As revealed by Football Insider (26 January), the club are plotting a sensational late bid for Heart ace Lawrence Shankland this month.
The Brighton loanee has been Rangers’ top goal scorer in all competitions this season having bagged 15 goals across 33 appearances in all competitions.
The Glasgow giants are keen to fill the void left by Sima as they attempt to move ahead of rivals Celtic and clinch the league title.
They have already brought in Wolves ace Fabio Silva, who is yet to score after three appearances, on loan for the remainder of the season but now are determined to add depth in the frontline.
Rangers are still looking to offload more players this month, with Football Insider revealing (20 January) that will sell Ridvan Yilmaz this month if they receive an offer between £3-4million.

Rangers sit second in the Scottish top-flight after their 1-0 win against St Mirren on Saturday (27 January) and are now just five points behind the Hoops with a game in hand.
They are next in action against Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon (3 February).
