Sources: Rangers confident of £4m Joe Aribo windfall as new details emerge

Rangers are confident they will secure the £4million of add-ons from the Southampton-Joe Aribo deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old signed for the Saints in the summer for an initial £6m rising to a potential £10m.

There is concern among some supporters that the add-ons inserted in the deal are not easily achievable.

But it is believed from sources with knowledge of the situation that the extra £4m is dependent on appearances and Rangers are confident they will get the top-up cash.

The early signs are good, with Aribo appearing in all seven of Southampton’s Premier League matches this term.

He has started four of those and played at least 29 minutes of the other three as a substitute.

Aribo has found himself on the scoresheet in the Premier League too, bagging on just his second appearance for the Saints in a 2-2 draw with Leeds United on 13 August.

Southampton currently sit 14th in the Premier League after losing four of their opening seven games.

Rangers reinvested in their squad using the money they secured from Aribo’s departure.

No fewer than seven senior signings arrived at Ibrox with fees paid for Ben Davies, Ridvan Yilmaz, Antonio Colak and Rabbi Matondo.

Tom Lawrence and John Souttar arrived on free transfers while Malik Tillman joined on loan from Bayern Munich.

Aribo left Rangers as a popular figure, impressing during his final season at Ibrox and scoring in the club’s Europa League final loss to Frankfurt.

He made 149 appearances for Rangers and helped the side win a Scottish Premiership title as well as Scottish Cup in his final season with the club.
