Sources: Rangers deal to sign Morgan Whittaker collapses

Morgan Whittaker’s proposed move to Rangers has collapsed, sources have told Football Insider.

The Glasgow giants have had three bids rejected by Swansea City for the attacker and were still hopeful of a deal going into deadline day.

But that possibility is seemingly over with clubs failing to strike an agreement over payments and talks are not expected to be revived.

Rangers

Whittaker agreed personal terms with Rangers some time ago and has long been keen on a move to the Glasgow giants.

However, he is now expected to remain at Swansea for the rest of the season barring an unexpected new development.

Rangers have been looking to bolster their midfield this month and have already signed Todd Cantwell from Norwich City.

He made his debut on Saturday (28 January) as Rangers beat St Johnstone 2-0.

However, the club remained keen in Whittaker and continued to pursue a deal until the final hours of deadline day.

Whittaker shone during the first half of the season on loan at Plymouth, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists before being recalled by Swansea earlier this month.

He has racked up 16 league goals in almost 90 appearances across the Championship and League One during his spells with the Swans, Plymouth, Lincoln, and Derby.

Rangers

Rangers remain nine points behind Celtic, who remain at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
