Sources: Rangers green light Barker move to new club today
Rangers have told Brandon Barker he’s free to find a new club today, Football Insider has learned.
The 24-year-old has not been handed a single minute of action in the new campaign by Gers boss Steven Gerrard despite featuring in pre-season.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Barker has been told he can leave permanently or on loan.
The winger’s contract at Ibrox is set to expire at the end of the season.
Barker joined Rangers from Manchester City in the summer of 2019 for an undisclosed fee.
However, he has failed to establish himself as a regular starter for Steven Gerrard’s side since the move.
He was loaned out to Oxford United for the second half of last season.
In 22 appearances for The U’s he contributed three goals and four assists to help them qualify for the League One play-offs.
A product of Man City’s esteemed academy, Barker has scored three goals in 26 appearances for Rangers.
The club had high hopes for the wide-man after he scored on his league debut against Livingston but he has failed to kick on from there.
The Gers now deem him surplus to requirements given the wealth of attacking talent at Ibrox.

Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Fashion Sakala Jnr, Cedric Itten, Jermain Defoe, Scott Wright, Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe are all at Steven Gerrard’s disposal.
Barker could join Jordan Jones and George Edmundson in leaving Ibrox to move south of the border this summer.
