Sources: Rangers lose out in race to sign Leeds star Darko Gyabi
Rangers made a late move to hijack Plymouth Argyle’s deal for Leeds midfielder Darko Gyabi, sources have told Football Insider.
As revealed by Football Insider (10 January), Championship side Plymouth Argyle opened talks with the Whites to sign the 19-year-old before agreeing terms on Thursday in a move announced later that day.
But the deal was not done before Rangers, along with QPR and Sheffield Wednesday made moves for Gyabi after being made aware that Leeds were willing to let him depart on loan this month.

Sources have told Football Insider that the trio all made contact with Daniel Farke’s side regarding a potential deal.
But Plymouth’s deal was too advanced at that stage and he ended up joining them on loan for the rest of the season.
The giant midfielder, who joined Leeds from Man City for £5million in the summer of 2022, has made just two appearances for the Whites this season.
Gyabi has been handed just 46 minutes of senior action this season and the club are keen for him to go out and secure senior minutes this season.
Rangers are eager for midfield reinforcements this month and are eyeing up further loan moves after securing Wolves ace Fabio Silva temporarily.
Football Insider revealed (8 January) that La Liga duo Sevilla and Granada have joined the Gers in the hunt for on-loan Brighton midfielder Steven Alzate.

Wednesday and QPR are in desperate need of quality additions in January to escape the relegation battle, with the clubs 22nd and 23rd in the Championship respectively.
Leeds have slipped to fourth in the second tier following an inconsistent run of form, while Rangers remain second in the Scottish top-flight.
