Sources: Rangers make move to sign Tasos Douvikas, £6.9m will seal the deal

Rangers have expressed an interest in a summer deal for FC Utrecht striker Tasos Douvikas, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the Dutch club are looking for a fee of around £6.9million in order to part with the 23-year-old.

Douvikas has been crucial for Utrecht this season, helping them into the playoffs for Europa Conference League qualification.

The Greece international has managed 21 goals and four assists across 36 appearances in all competitions this term.

He scored the joint-most Eredivisie goals in the 2022-23 campaign (19) – sharing the Golden Boot with PSV star Xavi Simons.

The Athens-born star joined Utrecht from top-flight Greek side Volos NPS in 2021 for a reported fee of more than €1million (£867,000).

Douvikas managed just 10 goals in his first season in Dutch football – but has more than doubled that tally to attract attention from Rangers.

His contract at Utrecht runs until June 2025.

The 23-year-old has been capped 15 times at senior level by Greece, finding the net on one occasion.

Rangers are searching for a long-term replacement for Alfredo Morelos – who will leave the club in the coming days when his contract expires.

The Gers have already had recent success in the European market, with 14-goal striker Antonio Colak joining the club from Greek club POAK last summer (2022).

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (27 May) that Michael Beale’s side are set to make 10 summer signings – including deals for Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dowell.

In other news, Rangers senior figure quits – but most fans won’t yet know.
