Sources: Rangers make Youssef Chermiti transfer U-turn

Rangers are hoping that Youssef Chermiti’s recent brace against Celtic can represent a turning point for his performances amid a transfer U-turn, sources have told Football Insider.

The Portuguese doubled his goal tally for the season in the Old Firm Derby victory, and there is now a feeling of hope at Ibrox that he will be able to build on that display.

Chermiti’s performances have frustrated Rangers fans, and there have been suggestions that the club were prepared to let him leave in January.

But sources have now outlined to Football Insider that the stance has changed and they are now not planning on selling him this month.

Rangers are now hoping to avoid having to cut their losses on Chermiti, who they shelled out £10million to sign from Everton last summer.

Rangers to add new striker alongside Youssef Chermiti in January

Former Aberdeen and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that Rangers are looking to add a new forward to their group during the winter window.

Danny Rohl has been affected by the inconsistency that his current attacking options have shown, with no player in his squad having even managed five strikes in league action so far this term.

Chermiti’s brace in the victory over Celtic has propelled him to joint-top of the Gers’ scoring charts, a position he shares with the unlikely duo of James Tavernier and centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez.

Fellow strikers Bojan Miovski and Danilo have managed to find the net just five times between them since the start of the Premiership campaign.

As a result, it is no surprise to see that Rohl is keen to strengthen his hand at the top of the pitch, as he looks to bolster the ranks for the title race in the second half of the season.

Wrexham have already given response to Josh Windass interest

Football Insider recently revealed that Wrexham have no intention to sell Josh Windass this winter, amid strong interest from Rangers.

The Ibrox outfit were keen to land the attacker when he became a free agent in the summer, but Wrexham ultimately denied a sensational return to Rangers by winning the race for his signature.

They have now stood in the way of that potential reunion once again in January, with the Red Dragons keen to keep hold of all their key players in a bid to try and push for promotion to the Premier League.

Rohl had been keen to link up with the former Sheffield Wednesday star once again, but he will now have to look elsewhere for his attacking additions.
