Sources: Rangers plotting to sign ex-Liverpool star Shamal George after scouting mission
Livingston goalkeeper Shamal George has impressed Rangers scouts this season ahead of a potential Ibrox switch this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 25-year-old shot-stopper is on the Gers’ radar after manager Michael Beale confirmed that funds have been set aside for a new keeper signing.
George has been extensively watched by Rangers talent-spotters this season following his move to Livingston from Colchester United last summer.
The Wirral-born star has conceded 29 goals in 22 starts across all competitions since moving north of the border – keeping six clean sheets.
He also impressed for Colchester last term – keeping seven clean sheets in 30 League Two games as the U’s recorded a mid-table finish.
As quoted by the Daily Record (30 January), Livingston boss David Martindale has admitted George is destined to leave for a “bigger club” – and tipped him for a “fantastic career”.
He impressed in Livi’s 1-1 draw with Rangers at Ibrox in October last year.
The 6ft 3in ace came through the ranks at Liverpool but failed to make a first-team appearance for the Premier League giants.
As per the Daily Record (11 February), Rangers manager Beale has insisted he wants to see all three of his senior goalkeeping options in action before making a decision on a new signing at the end of the season.
Allan McGregor, Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie have all featured this term – but McGregor, 41, could retire at the end of the season when his contract expires.

McLaughlin has kept five clean sheets in 10 Scottish Premiership outings, while McGregor has kept six in 15 top-flight starts.
McCrorie is yet to play a minute of competitive football this term.
