Sources: Rangers set sights on signing Huddersfield Town star Ben Jackson

Rangers are keeping tabs on Huddersfield Town defender Ben Jackson following his first-team emergence, sources have told Football Insider.

The left-sided star, 21, has established himself in the senior team under new manager Mark Fotheringham, starting seven of Huddersfield’s last nine Championship games.

Rangers are among a number of clubs making regular checks on Jackson’s progress ahead of the January window.

He has a contract with Huddersfield that runs until the summer of 2024.

The Glasgow giants are keen to strengthen their left-back options amid doubts over the long-term future of Borna Barisic at Ibrox and Jackson is on their list of targets.

Jackson‘s versatility through playing at left-back and left wing-back, as well as left of midfield, has made him a key man in Fotheringham’s plans.

The super-quick youngster has come through the ranks at Huddersfield and is highly regarded by the club’s hierarchy.

He has had loan spells at Stockport County, Bolton Wanderers and Doncaster Rovers in the last couple of seasons to gain valuable first-team experience.

The Stockport-born ace has now played 10 Championship games for Huddersfield and he scored his first Championship goal earlier this season.

Barisic has less than two years to run on his Ibrox contract but Rangers brought in Ridvan Yilmaz from Besiktas in the summer to provide cover and competition.

However, the Turkey international, 21, has only started two Scottish Premiership games this season and is currently out with a hamstring injury.

In other news, an insider has revealed that “questions are being asked” internally at Rangers after a “headline-grabbing” reveal.
