Sources: Rangers star Josh McPake set to complete move this week amid five-club race

Rangers pre-season star Josh McPake is set to complete a loan move this week, sources have told Football Insider.

EFL trio Hartlepool United, Stevenage and Crawley Town are battling Scottish pair Queens Park and Dundee for the signature of the 20-year-old.

Rangers are willing to let McPake go this summer after he slipped down their forward pecking order.

He has two years left to run on his Ibrox contract after signing a new three-year deal last summer (2021) and has vast senior experience after his loan spells.

McPake has scored four goals in three pre-season Rangers matches to intensify interest in him.

The Scotland Under-21 international has spent the majority of the last three years out on loan after making his senior debut for the Gers in 2019.

His first temporary spell away was with Dundee back in the first half of the 2019-20 season where he played seven times in the Scottish Championship before suffering an ankle injury.

In the 2021-22 season, he began the campaign in League One in England with Morecambe before moving to League Two side Tranmere Rovers in January.

Across his loan spells with Dundee, Greenock Morton, Harrogate Town, Morecambe and Tranmere he racked up 61 games across all competitions, scoring five goals and contributing three assists.

At Rangers, his only senior appearance came in the Europa League against Gibraltese side St Joseph’s at Ibrox in July 2019 under Steven Gerrard.
