Sources: Rangers talks to sign Michy Batshuayi collapse – and this is why

Talks between Rangers and former Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi have collapsed, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that Philippe Clement’s side are no longer in pole position to sign the Fenerbahce, who has offers from multiple European clubs ahead of his contract expiring in the summer.

As revealed by Football Insider (10 January), the Gers have been working on a sensational deal to bring Batshuayi to Ibrox and Clement has personally spoken to his fellow countryman to detail his plans for the forward.

However, Batshuayi’s wage demands are out of reach for Rangers despite the recent deal that brought Fabio Silva from Wolves on loan.

Now, the Glasgow giants have turned their attention to other targets they consider to be more realistic.

Batshuayi is currently at Turkish side Fenerbahce, where he has notched 9 goals and three assists in 22 appearances in all competitions this season.

The 30-year-old could be allowed to leave Istanbul after he and the club failed to reach an agreement on a new contract, which expires this summer.

Batshuayi has earned himself an impressive record as a prolific goalscorer across numerous elite clubs in Europe including Chelsea, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Crystal Palace.

He bagged nine goals and one assist for the German giants during a six-month loan spell from Chelsea and 33 goals and 10 assists in 78 appearances during his two-year spell in France.

Rangers remain keen on further recruitment in their attack following the landmark addition of Fabio Silva from Wolves on loan for the remainder of the season.

As revealed by Football Insider (5 January), the Gers are working on signing a second forward in the January transfer window.

Rangers

Rangers sit second in the Scottish top-flight and are eight points away from league leaders Celtic with two games in hand.

After the winter break, they next face Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup on 20 January.
