Sources: Rangers to appoint new head coach – Watling lands post

Rangers first team coach Harry Watling will take over from David McCallum as head coach of the sides B at the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.

Current B team manager David McCallum will leave his post and Manager Michael Beale has asked Watling to take over as a major shake-up at the club continues.

Beale is understood to be a major driving force in restructuring the football side of the club as he tries to bridge the gap with all-conquering Celtic.

McCallum has been part of the Rangers academy since 2015 and even stepped in as interim manager before Giovanni Van Bronckhorst was appointed in 2021.

However he will leave in the summer and Beale has decided that first team development coach Wattling is the man to take the B team forward.

The 33-year-old came to Glasgow with the Rangers manager from QPR when he was appointed in November last year and has worked with the current first team squad.

He will move to work with some of Rangers top youngsters as they try to build a stronger pathway into the first team for top youngsters at the club.
