Sources: Rangers told £10m will seal Ross Stewart deal as contact made

Sunderland have placed a £10million price tag on Rangers-wanted star striker Ross Stewart, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old’s future at the Stadium of Light is up in the air with his contract expiring next summer.

Sunderland do have an option to extend Stewart’s deal by another 12 months, but they face a major battle to hang on to him.

Rangers and Middlesbrough have registered their interest in Stewart and they are actively monitoring his situation at Sunderland.

Stewart marked his return to action after four months out with a goal in last weekend’s draw at Hull to bring his tally to six goals in just eight Championship games so far this season.

The striker made waves on Wearside during the 2021-22 season, scoring 24 League One goals to help Sunderland return to the Championship.

Stewart already has 41 Scottish Premiership appearances to his name after turning out for Ross County at St Mirren earlier in this career.

He notched nine goals in 40 top-flight appearances for Ross County as they fought against relegation during the 2020/21 and 2019/20 seasons.

Rangers

Rangers signed Croatian striker Antonio Colak in the summer of 2022 and he hit the ground running by scoring 11 goals in 14 Premiership appearances so far this season.

Alfredo Morelos, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has struggled for form this term but scored the winner as Rangers beat Hibs 3-2 on Thursday (15 December).
