Sources: Reading make official approach for Man United star Charlie Savage
Reading have now joined the chase for Man United youngster Charlie Savage, sources have told Football Insider.
The League One club have officially made an approach to United for the midfielder.
On Wednesday (19 July), Football Insider revealed that Savage is a target for a number of clubs at home and abroad, including Sheffield Wednesday, Swansea City and Wigan.
Savage’s current contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025 and includes the option of a further year.
The 20-year-old, and son of former Leicester City star Robbie Savage, spent the second half of last season on loan with Forest Green Rovers.
He made 15 appearances for the League One club, starting 13 of those outings, and netted one goal.
Savage also featured heavily for United’s youth sides last season, featuring 17 times in both the Premier League 2 and the EFL trophy and captained the under-21s side three times last term.
Although Savage is yet to make his senior debut for the Red Devils, he has previously trained with the first team squad.
He also featured for the side in their 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Leeds United in Oslo last week where he was made captain for the second half of the match.

But the youngster was left out for the 1-0 friendly win against Lyon on Wednesday (19 July) and was not selected to be part of the 31-man senior squad for their tour of the US.
Now Reading boss Ruben Selles is eyeing up the centre-mid as he looks to rebuild the squad following their relegation to the third tier of English football.
