Sources: Reading submit bid for Norwich City star Jordan Hugill

Reading have submitted a bid for Norwich City striker Jordan Hugill, sources have told Football Insider.

The ex-West Ham and Preston North End forward, 30, is well down the pecking order at the Canaries and they have given the green light to him moving this month.

Hugill is out of contract at Norwich in the summer.

New Canaries boss David Wagner is keen to offload some fringe players to make room for any potential new arrivals at Carrow Road.

Hugill had two spells on loan at West Brom and Cardiff last season.

The experienced striker has made just seven Championship appearances this season for Norwich and has struggled to challenge Teemu Pukki for a starting role in the side.

Should he leave in January, he’ll depart Carrow Road having only scored six professional goals for Norwich.

He enjoyed a much better spell in front of goal on loan with Cardiff last season, scoring four and assisting twice in 18 appearances for the Bluebirds.

Hugill also shined on loan during the 2019/20 season when West Ham shipped him off to QPR – he scored on average once every three matches with an impressive record of 13 goals in 39 appearances.

Reading

Reading recently revealed that striker Andy Carroll had signed a new deal to stay with the club until 2024, but manager Paul Ince could still do with another proficient goalscorer after only scoring 29 goals in 26 Championship fixtures so far this season.

Ince has often preferred to play a two-striker formation at Reading, and that opportunity for improved game time could convince him to join the Championship club this month.

In other news, Football Insider sources can reveal that West Brom, QPR and Reading are all in the race to sign Liverpool star Leighton Clarkson
