Sources: Reo Hatate has release clause inserted in Celtic contract

Reo Hatate has a release clause in his Celtic contract, sources have told Football Insider.

Hatate, who signed a four-year deal with the Hoops back in January 2022, is attracting interest from top clubs in England and Europe.

But the good news for Hoops fans is that interested teams will have to meet the release clause in the Japan international’s contract.

Brighton are big admirers of the 25-year-old and are keen on a deal for the versatile midfielder this summer.

Back in March, Football Insider revealed that the Seagulls have been plotting to sign the Japan international and have scouted him throughout an impressive season.

There has been a worry among fans that their talented midfielder could be leaving Parkhead in the summer as Roberto de Zerbi’s side continue to monitor Hatate.

The playmaker set up the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Hearts on Sunday (7 May) to clinch the Scottish Premiership title for the second time under Ange Postecoglou.

But Hatate caused a stir on Twitter after he appeared to be missing from the team photos taken when the league winners returned to Parkhead to celebrate the title, leading rumours to swirl among concerned fans that he could depart this summer.

He has become a fan favourite for his impressive displays this season including against Champions League veterans Real Madrid earlier in the season.

Hatate has made 40 appearances across all competitions and has scored eight goals and provided ten assists in those outings.

In other news, Celtic bank £3m windfall and another £28m now guaranteed.
